Hassle-free returnsWaitā is one of the stars of the Matariki cluster. “Wai” is the Māori word for water, and in this circumstance “tā” means salt. The star is connected to the many kinds of food that are gathered from the sea and saltwater. It is also said that when Matariki sits just above the ocean horizon, it will significantly impact the ocean tides and floodwaters. Whai (stingray) are seen as an ocean kaitiaki (guardian), protecting areas where shellfish are harvested.
This piece is part of our Matariki Collection. Included, is the framed original artwork, signed by Tamaora Walker. The photo frame is (28cm h x 23cm w).

The artist behind this creationPerhaps it’s a trick of the light that lends translucence to Tamaora’s work. Or maybe this glow is evidence of an ancient Māori belief that pounamu lives and breathes. Tamaora regards pounamu with reverence and respect born of his Māori heritage, with traditional forms and symbolism deeply influencing his designs. Tamaora is from Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Rangitihi.
He has also exhibited overseas and studied the work of international carvers.
