The Breastplate is a symbol of strength and leadership.
The pounamu breastplate is thought of as a shield, giving the wearer strength and offering them protection throughout their life.
Ric Moor
The artist behind this creationRic has worked as a jade carver for more than 17 years. He was initially attracted to jade as a medium because of its sense of permanency.
Through his craft he has been able to discover and define himself as a person, a teacher, as kaitiaki of pounamu and as a New Zealander - Ngāti Pākehā - who identifies strongly with Māori culture.
The breastplate acts as a physical and symbolic shield and is thought to be a protective talisman. It represents strength, resilience, and the ability to shield oneself from negative energies or harm.
