Barbed Fish Hook Necklace

SKU:
NN006-50
$298.00 NZD

This is a custom curling fish hook design. It was sketched and carved by artist Niki Nepia in Rotorua, New Zealand, and measures 5.5cm long. We love how barb bends sharply in on itself and that the Chinese jade has small black spots through it. It's masculine and provides safe travel over water.

Artist Profile

Story

Maori flourished in early New Zealand with bounty from the sea. They used the fish hook to catch seafood, but over time it slowly became regarded as more than just a tool. The integral role it played in their survival was seen as a blessing, and it became a talisman worn around the neck on a cord symbolising their relationship with the sea god Tangaroa. Today, wearing a fish hook shows a deep respect for the ocean and is said to provide safe travel over Tangaroas domain, the sea.
